Covington Fuzz Run 42nd Annual 5K is September 13, 2025. Registered yet?
Is this really the best Georgia road race or is that just good marketing? The answer is yes, by race voters!
Fuzz Run attracts 5,000 neighbors, friends, family and visitors, both participants and spectators, who love community and racing action. It has been voted 'Best Race in Georgia' continuously by race participants in the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix Series. The race continues to grow each year; 3,000-plus walkers, runners and racers participated last year.
"It's a very big community event where we just celebrate everyone's love of running and helping out a good cause," said Covington Police Department Information Systems Specialist Kristi Greco.
Covington Fuzz Run is on Saturday, September 13, 2025, presented by the Covington Police Department, and sponsored by Sellars Motors and BD Covington Campus.
Routed through beautiful, historic Covington, racers and walkers enjoy great scenery while getting in their exercise.
"You are running through the Hollywood of the SouthTM," added Greco. "You get to pass by TV and movie filming locations like Cannonball Run, Dukes of Hazzard, The Vampire Diaries, Sweet Magnolias and so many more."
Register by August 29, 2025 to ensure your T-shirt size. Registration remains open until 8 am on September 13 - race souvenirs and T-shirt sizes are available while supplies last.
Did you know? The Fuzz Run 5K is a Peachtree Qualifier race, certification number GA19018WC
MaryBeth's Redbird Run is named in honor of Mary Beth Malcom (2001-2006), daughter of retired CPD Captain Ken Malcom and Cindi Brown Hendrix.
Always on the second Saturday of September, Fuzz Run is the primary source of funding for the nonprofit Police Who Care (PWC) fund.
Started in 1974 by Officer Frank Hilton, PWC was established to provide community support for those in need. The PWC has positively impacted the lives of individuals, families, and organizations throughout Covington, Newton County and Georgia, such as Special Olympics, Alcovy CASA, YMCA, Miracle League, and Project Renewal. PWC extends the reach of the Covington Police Department's ability to protect and to serve by offering financial assistance in the wake of tragedy and when an officer has lost their life in the call of service.
Captain Willie Davis and Chief Bobby Moody partnered in 1983 to establish the run. This year's race is led by Race Director Chip Shirah of the Covington Police Who Care, Inc.
The fun keeps going after the race with DJ-inspired tunes and The Expo, featuring vendors offering products and information about their services. Pick up giveaways of items such as ChapStick, water, bug spray and healthy snacks. Choose your favorite among the food truck options. Compare your race times and gather with participants for high-fives and post-race hydration.
Fuzz Run Race Director Chip Shirah said, "It's a good kickoff for the fall."
Register to participate online at covingtonfuzzrun.com. The entry fee is $30 Pre-Registration and $35 on Race Day; $10 Redbird Run.
