Turner Lake Park – Dog Park

Bring your furry family members to the dog park just inside Turner Lake Park; open from dawn to dusk. There are two fenced-in areas — one for small dogs up to 30 pounds, and one for larger dogs, 30 pounds and more — and features several agility activities for dogs to exercise.

Turner Lake Park is an ideal local spot for fishing, pickleball, softball/baseball fields, basketball, picnic areas, playground, bike trail, and walking trails. You could be here all day!

Central Park – Parker’s Pasture Disc Golf

Central Park is the centerpiece for recreational activities in the heart of Covington. It’s also home to our championship disc golf course, Parkers Pasture, named for the former farm that once occupied this site. The disc golf course is highly rated by pro and amateur players.

Covington Central Park has a trail system connecting 11 neighborhoods bordering the park and the paved Cricket Frog Trail that runs through the heart of the city. Walkers, cyclists, picnickers, creek dabblers and playground climbers find Central Park in Covington to be a natural blast.

Miracle Field Complex Playground

The Miracle League Field features a fully accessible field designed to allow all people the opportunity to play baseball. The complex has a cushioned rubberized surface, wheelchair accessible dugouts, and a flat surface to eliminate barriers for individuals with different abilities. Accessible restrooms, a concession stand, and picnic pavilion are also incorporated in the complex.

When leagues are not playing on the field, the playground is the spot to be! The playground is a fully accessible play area with safety surfacing designed to all abilities.

Cricket Frog Trail

Get Outside on the coolest pathway in town – and country! The Cricket Frog Trail is a railbed-turned-pathway that meanders 4 miles through town. The trail heads east past neighborhoods and through shady woodlots and former farm fields for 6 miles to Mansfield, home to charming cafés and an old depot. It continues southward tracing the old route of Central of Georgia railroad. Approximately 14 miles are paved with plans to connect to other Newton County trails and communities. It is named for a quarter-size native Georgia amphibian renowned for its leap. Trail End Points: Turner Lake Rd. (Covington) and Ziegler Rd. (Mansfield)

  • Join the Covington Community Bike Ride! A monthly group bicycle ride is led by Newton Trails volunteers. Riders meet at 3:00 PM on First Sundays at the Covington Square. The first loop is a gentle 4.5-mile roll around historic downtown Covington. Up for more? Take a ride on the scenic Eastside Trail. Cyclists must wear helmets.
Academy Springs Park

A cherished Covington pocket park is at the corners of Conyers Street and Legion Drive. Enjoy Academy Springs Park with a playground installed by the Covington Lions Club and maintained by the City Parks Department. Kids can have fun playing on the swing set, slide, and sandbox with pathways for walkers meandering through the shade trees. Is this bridge familiar? It was the setting for a romantic scene in The Vampire Diaries television series.

Chimney Park

Chimney Park surrounds the remnants of a once grand home built in the early 1900s – abandoned and burned down – and now a place where imagination and discovery are cultivated. The 12-acre site is behind the library offering a welcoming, outdoor space for families with children with special needs. Friends of Newton Parks works with the Newton County Parks and Recreation Commission toward the national goal of No Child Left Inside by incorporating playful elements into the park’s activity areas.

We encourage you to take advantage of Covington’s parks and activities between guided tours, conferences, date nights and live music shows!
