Love is in the Air

When it’s February in Covington, love is in the air. Here are some of the great places to stock up for that special someone on Valentine’s Day. And delightful spots for Valentine’s Date Night.

Start at The Chocolate Box (pictured above, 2169 Pace St.). All the scrumptious chocolates are made in the shop in Covington. Go for the chocolate covered Marshmallow Pops. Yum!

Next, try Southern Roots Outfitter (1116 Monticello St., SW). You’ll find clothing for both men and women. They have great brands like Southern Marsh and Peach State Pride. You will also want to go to Woven Boutique (1140 Church St.). If the woman in your life is obsessed with clothing or accessories, you’ll find it at Woven.

Ready for a break? Take a late morning date-break at Bread and Butter Bakery (1124 Monticello St., SW). Grab a couple of delectable cinnamon rolls and choose from a full menu of coffees. Stay for awhile and enjoy.

Ridge Avenue (1120 Monticello St.) may look like it only has home décor, but they have an incredible gift selection. Town Square Olive Oil (1130 Church St.) has over 65 varieties of olive oil and balsamic vinegar from Spain, Greece, Italy – everywhere. If you’re buying for a culinary aficionado, the choices here are superb.

WildArt (1105 Washington St., SW) features beautiful pieces by local artists. There are paintings, to be sure, but also other mediums, including handmade scarves and hand-spun writing instruments. There is something here for every taste. The Soap Box (1107 Church St.) is a Valentine’s delight. There are over 1,000 different products here, including sugar scrub cubes, facial cleansers, and foaming bath salts.

If you have a fan of The Vampire Diaries as your date, take a tour of filming locations in Covington and then head to The Alley gift shop (1116 Clark St.). Down the steps next to the Mystic Grill, it’s a vampire paradise, filled with Mystic Falls t-shirts, Salvatore brothers’ magnets, a cool Klaus license plate, and so much more. You’ll also want to check out Vampire Stalkers Mystic Falls Tours (1102 Monticello St.) for the perfect gift for your vampire-obsessed Valentine!

Of course, you’ll be looking for flowers, as well. Sherwood’s Flowers & Gifts (1105 Floyd St., NE) has unusual arrangements like honey lavender and garden baskets. You’ll also want to drop by Covington Flower Shop (1149 Washington St., SW). You can find both red and free spirit roses to make the holiday extra special.

Now, for your special evening out. For a pre-dinner drink, go straight to The Social Goat Tavern (1115 Church St.). Go through the dining area to the bar in the back and definitely order The Tatooed Bartender. Ole Smoky watermelon whiskey, berries, mint, and lemon. Refreshing and absolutely delicious.

For dinner, there are so many great places to choose from. The City Pharmacy (1105 Church St.) is perfect if you’re looking for something upscale. Or try Walden’s Restaurant (3186 Washington St., SW) if you’re in more of a down-home mood. The catfish are the best you’ve ever had.
