Hearing about Covington from the folks who live or visit here can give you a sense of how much fun a trip to Covington can be. Our blogs allow you to make a deep dive into Covington as you plan your visit.
Well, I made it a few days on my New Year’s resolution. “Lose 10 pounds,” I told myself. But there is just too much good food in Covington. And the variety!
It was only a few days into January when I made my way to The Town House Café for breakfast. My first issue was to decide on which delicious meal to choose. I finally went with the Bacon & Egg sandwich and washed it down with several cups of good, steaming coffee. It was only the next day when I went into The Social Goat. With a great drink menu, plenty of food, and an inviting atmosphere, the tavern is a terrific choice for lunch or dinner. I tried the Peel & Eat Shrimp for an appetizer and then went with The Social Goat burger – wicked pimento and bacon onion jam. Yum!
Anyone who has ever been to Covington will tell you they go straight to City Pharmacy. The food here is so good and so wide-ranging that you could eat here every day for a month. I couldn’t resist the Wild Mushroom Meatloaf. They make it with a blend of veal, beef, and pork. It is simply the best. They also have an exceptional choice of wines.
Bread and Butter Bakery is the perfect place to grab something quick, or to spend an hour. Scones, cinnamon rolls, croissants, and so much more. This is one of my regular stops. Another favorite is across the Historic Downtown Square. @local Coffee House & Study Lounge has such welcoming spaces. I can grab a book from their library and settle in with coffee and a muffin for a splendid morning. And I can take a bag of their superb coffee home with me. Also, check out Lily & Sparrow – they roast all their terrific coffee in house!
When I want something tasty and filling, I go to Bradley’s Real Pit Barbeque. BBQ, burgers, onion rings – the menu is extensive. I always order the Pork Que Taters, covered in cheese and Bradley’s sauce. When I get hungry for sushi, there’s no better choice than Osake. If sushi is not your thing, they also do hibachi.
The Depot Sports Bar & Grill, Walden’s Restaurant, Mystic Grill, and so many more. In Covington, I never run out of choices for the best in dining. Find our eateries at https://discovercovingtonga.com/dine.php or check out the websites of each establishment.
Next year, I’m going to choose a different resolution. Maybe I’ll swear off vampires – no, wait.
Until next time,
Bill Thomas
