Covington celebrates its sci-fi fantasy twin city as Mystic Falls – the hometown of the Vampire Diaries television series from 2009 to 2017. As IMDB puts it, it’s about “The lives, loves, dangers and disasters in the town, Mystic Falls, Virginia where creatures of unspeakable horror lurk beneath this town as a teenage girl is suddenly torn between two vampire brothers.”

Here are a few ways to celebrate your inner vampire:

  • A must-see and first stop for all visitors is the Covington Visitor Center, which houses the expanded and only TV and Movie Museum in Georgia. See film clips starring Covington, camera worn clothing, furniture and props from the Vampire Diaries Series. Select brochures for all the things to do in town and meet the super-amazing staff and volunteers who are on hand to help you plan your visit.

  • Vampire Stalkers Tours Mystic Falls Tours offers tours for everyone that highlight iconic locations seen in the series, including exclusive access to Lockwood Mansion, Witches House and Elena's Porch. They also tour scenes in The Originals and Legacies around town.

  • Hop on a trolley tour with Main Street Trolleys to see filming locations that represent Mystic Falls, Virginia; Sparta, Mississippi; Hazzard County, Georgia; and Serenity, South Carolina right here in Covington. Hear stories and get exclusive views of some of the most iconic places to appear in famous films made in Covington.

  • Thursday, April 3, 2025: 6 pm Vampire Diaries Episodes on the Square Watch fan-favorite Vampire Diaries episodes showing on the Historic Covington Square, part of the Vampire Diaries I Was Feeling Epic convention.

  • Dine at Mystic Grill and buy Vampire merchandise in local shops (delicious blood bags, too)! Check out dining and shopping in Covington.

Who remembers Daisy, Bo, and Luke Duke? The first several episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard were filmed in Covington and surrounding areas in 1979 before production moved to California. The famous opening scene of the airborne General Lee, the Duke cousins' muscle car, was filmed at nearby Oxford College.

  • Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise landed their plane at the historic Covington Square to get more beer in the 1981 The Cannonball Run!
  • The Sparta, Mississippi Courthouse filmed In The Heat of the Night is the historic Covington Courthouse of this television crime drama that aired from 1988 to 1995. In front of the Courthouse is Bill Gillespie’s star (actor Carroll O’Connor as Police Chief Bill Gillespie) from Covington’s Walk of Stars.
  • My Cousin Vinny (1992) filmed in nearby Mansfield next to what is now the developed Cricket Frog Trail.
